This year we did our school production. It was called Oliver With A Twist.
We started off with Auditions and We had to learn all of the lines of 1 scene. When we were doing our rehearsals the teachers picked us a person on whom they wanted us to play and for me they picked Bill Sykes I also snag in this rehearsal because I didn’t mind if I had to sing in the show. I ended up singing a little bit of the Maori bit of the New Zealand national anthem.
A couple days later we all got called to go outside and there they would tell us who got a callback and I was one of them. The next rehearsal we had to memorize another scene and I wanted to play the part of Fagin. The song I sang during that rehearsal was Bohemian Rhapsody By Queen.
Next was when we were finding out the parts we were going to be playing in the show. I was very nervous because I wanted to get a good part. It took a while for them to get to me and when they did I ended up playing the part of Bill Sykes.
Throughout the 7 weeks of the rehearsals everyone in the cast and the directors put in so much work to get this play amazing. We had rehearsals in school time, 1 rehearsal was on thursday after school and 1 on the sunday before the production which is when I found out I will be singing a little bit of a song. On the week of production we had 2 dress rehearsals with mics and everything the first one was with just the cast, the directors, the lighting and technology people. But the second one was with the years 4-8 because those were the people that had dances during the show. It also had all of the technology and lighting people there as well.
The final thing that we had to do was to actually perform the shows. We had 4 shows that we were going to perform 2 on the Wednesday at 1:00pm and 6:00pm and 2 on the Thursday but it was the same time as the Tuesday shows. I had a lot of people that went to the show for me. I had my cousins (not all of them), my neighbours and my brother. On Thursday night I had my Dad, my sister, my nana and my granddad, my auntie and my Mum (but she had to go to all of the shows because she is a teacher). My favourite bit was when we were doing our final bows and I thought all of the hard work everyone put in had finally paid off.
If you saw me perform did I do well?
