CHRISTCHURCH 2011 EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!

This week in reading we have been writing about New Zealand disasters. There were three options that we could write about. They were The Wahine Disaster, The Ballantynes Fire and the Christchurch 2011 Earthquake. I chose the Christchurch Earthquakes because to me it sounded like it was the most interesting out of the three. Our goal was to write an information report on the disaster that we chose. Our first bit that we had to do was our planning. First we had to write our introduction, then we wrote 2 sentences that we are going to use in three paragraphs, then we wrote our conclusion, after we put pictures in it that we were going to use and finally we wrote our bibliography.

Can you tell me another New Zealand disaster?

TASI/KIO

This Week in Maori we have been learning about TASI/KIO. TASI/KIO is the Maori sentence structure. TASI/KIO stands for Tense, Action, Subject, I stands for when, K or I stands for directional (who you are talking to) and finally O stands for object. Our create task was to make our own sentence. using some of these features (or all of them). I wanted to make my sentence about rugby. Here is my sentence…

I haere ahau ki te kēmu whutupaoro I te Rāhoroi.

Which means: I went to the rugby game on saturday.

Do you reckon you could write a sentence in Maori.

New Tote Tray Labels

Today I made a new Tote Tray label with my friend Hunter. We had a choice between paper and digital. I tried to do a digital version because I could put pictures of my favorite NBA players. The players I chose were SGA ( Shai Gilgeous-Alexander), Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant. But with the background I decided to the Los Angeles Lakers colours. We were not allowed to change the dimensions of the size. Because my teacher made so it fits perfectly on our tote trays. I felt like it looked really cool. Here it is…

Who is your favourite NBA player?

Climate Change!

This week in reading we have been learning about climate change. I felt like I already knew a lot about climate change because in reading last year we did a lot of sessions on climate change. I was wondering if the story was going to be different but it wasn’t it was the same. I couldn’t remember it though but my friend called Van could. He was doing the sessions with me last year. Our create was to either make a poster about climate change or make a blog about it. But I will link the work that I did for you guys. I enjoyed doing this because we had to write stuff about what we knew about climate change, what we want to learn about climate change and what we learned about climate change (after we finished reading the book of course). After I filled in the first 2 boxes we read the story. I enjoyed the story it told us a lot of stuff about climate change and a lot of stuff I didn’t know about climate change. After we read the story we had to do a thing we wrote 6 key words. I did it all on the slide they provided us. Here it is…

Do you know anything about climate change that I missed?

Maui and The Giant Fish!

This week Miss Henderson filmed my class on a thing called class on air. We read a story called Maui and the Giant Fish. Our Task was to summarise the story but we had to include emoji. We also had to try and black out the bits of the text and try to find the main part of the text. After we found the main bits of the text

The part I struggled with the most was trying to find the right emoji for the bit. I think sometimes when you try to figure out the emoji you have to think outside of the box. Here it is…

Maui wanted to go 🎣 with his brothers but they would always make a lame excuse. So one ⛅ he 👟 on their 🛶 when they dropped the ⚓ he surprised them. He said a 🙏 and the brothers immediately started to catch fish. When Maui decided to have a turn he caught a massive 🐟. His brothers started to cut it and eat it. This 🐠 turned into the north 🏝of 🇳🇿.

Could you figure out the sneaker Emoji?

Pope Leo XIV

This morning on May 9th 2025 at around 4:30 am New Zealand time the Cardinals elected a new Pope. His name is Robert Francis Provost has been elected the Pope of the Catholic Church. He has taken the name of Pope Leo XIV (14). On the day the conclave started we tried to guess who is going to be the next Pope. First we put the name of our Cardinal (a cardinal is a person who helps vote for the new Pope), then we put a picture of our chosen Cardinal. Afterwards we put information about our Cardinal. Here it is…..

Jack and the Beanstalk

On Wednesday my normal teachers had CRT (classroom release time) so we had our fill-ins teaching us for the day. In writing I had a choice to write a fairy tale, folk tale, myth or a legend. I chose the fairy tale because I wanted to write about Jack and the Beanstalk. The story had to have a villain in it. My main goal was to change up the story a bit. Here it is……..

Jack And The Beanstalk

Jack lived an amazing life but he was very strict to himself, when he wasn’t in school he was doing his homework, when he wasn’t doing his homework he was practicing his cello, when he wasn’t practising his cello he was working in his parents convenience store. But one day when he was walking back from school he was greeted by a strange old man. He gave Jack three beans he said to Jack “plant the seed somewhere away from buildings!” Jack wanted to ask why but then he ran off. The next morning Jack went to school and typed into google “What to do if a random man gives you beans.” It came up with a story about a man who gave a child three beans and the next day he planted them and a beanstalk grew way above the clouds to a kingdom with the Exotic sword belonging to King Jonesy.

The second Jack got home from school he asked his parents if he could have one day off from working and practicing they said “Sure son you’ve been working so hard anyway.” So he got home and planted the beans and got on his plane and flew up with the beanstalk. When he got there he put his lightsaber in his lightsaber holder just to be safe. He entered the castle and waited in a big line of little mushrooms to meet King Jonesy.

Back down on earth the man who gave Jack the beans got his chainsaw and started to cut the beanstalk down. Back up in the kingdom Jack was at the front of the line and saw King Jonesy when he asked for the Exotic Sword King Jonesy said “ you ask for my most prized possession!” Jack Says I will give you 1 million and 1 dollar. King Joseny says yes to the offer. So Jack gives him the money and realizes that the beanstalk was cut down and his helicopter was right in front of him which means someone stole his helicopter, flew all the way up.

He pulled out the Exotic Sword and was searching for anyone who wasn’t meant to be up here. He looked behind him and it was the man who gave him the beans holding his lightsaber about to strike him. But he put the sword through the lightsaber and cut it. The strange man was left with nothing and Jack was about to stab him before he saw. The kid who got the beans first so Jack gave the kid the sword and let him do the honours.

Have you ever written a fairy tale?

A day in My life

An average day in my life is…

I wake up at 6 in the morning and have a shower. Then it would be around 6:15. After my shower I will get dressed in my school uniform. After I get dressed I go out in the living room and watch some Young Sheldon. I will have some breakfast usually a bagel or a crumpet. Then I will pack my bag for school. When I arrive at school I play some rugby or basketball with my friends until we have to go inside. At lunch we normally play rugby. After school my Mum might have a meeting but when we get home I will play some Fortnite. After Fortnite I will have some dinner. My favorite is tortellini. That was a day in my life.

Great Geography

This term in my Hub the year 7s have been learning about Geography, while the year 8s have been doing leadership roles. My create was to do a little briefing of a region in New Zealand. I learned that there are 16 regions in New Zealand. I originally got to the region of Auckland but then I realized that Otago was open. So I asked the teacher if I could have Otago and she said I could if i did it by myself. Here it is…

Do you know anything about Otago?

Holy Week???????????

Kia Ora.

This week in the Totara Hub we have been learning about Holy Week. Holy Week takes place in Lent. Lent is when Jesus spent 40 days in the desert. it is also a time to repent, pray, fast and almsgiving. Holy Week starts on Passion Sunday. Passion Sunday is when Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. That was not tamed. When he told his disciples to gok get a donkey they got a wild one which wasn’t tamed. But when Jesus touched it suddenly stopped honking. The day after Passion Sunday is Holy Thursday which is when the Last Supper took place. It was also the night when Jesus got betrayed by Judas. Holy Week continues on with Good Friday. Good Friday is when Jesus died on the cross. Then we have the last day of Holy Week is Easter Sunday which is the day when Jesus rose from the dead and showed his disciples the hole is hid hands. I did 2 creates this week one of which was a word search and another one is the important events of Holy Week. Here they are….
