The Michael Rosen Rap

When our PAT’s were coming up my class were doing reading comprehension practise. It was pretty straightforward we would read a text then answer a couple questions about the text. Mrs Henderson taught us that there were two types of  questions that we would be answering. One of them was inferring and one retrieval.

I really enjoyed completing them. My favourite practise one was Forgiven by A.A Milne. After we had read all of them and answered all of the questions it was our challenge to write our own. We could use a famous authors book or poem and do 10 questions about the text. The one that I chose was The Michael Rosen Rap by (you’ll never guess it) Michael Rosen. If you would like to play my quiz it will be in the link down below.

Wicked, Grasping, Scheming, Villainous Bill Sykes

This year we did our school production. It was called Oliver With A Twist.

We started off with Auditions and We had to learn all of the lines of 1 scene. When we were doing our rehearsals the teachers picked us a person on whom they wanted us to play and for me they picked Bill Sykes I also snag in this rehearsal because I didn’t mind if I had to sing in the show. I ended up singing a little bit of the Maori bit of the New Zealand national anthem.

A couple days later we all got called to go outside and there they would tell us who got a callback and I was one of them. The next rehearsal we had to memorize another scene and I wanted to play the part of Fagin. The song I sang during that rehearsal was Bohemian Rhapsody By Queen.

Next was when we were finding out the parts we were going to be playing in the show. I was very nervous because I wanted to get a good part. It took a while for them to get to me and when they did I ended up playing the part of Bill Sykes.

Throughout the 7 weeks of the rehearsals everyone in the cast and the directors put in so much work to get this play amazing. We had rehearsals in school time, 1 rehearsal was on thursday after school and 1 on the sunday before the production which is when I found out I will be singing a little bit of a song. On the week of production we had 2 dress rehearsals with mics and everything the first one was with just the cast, the directors, the lighting and technology people. But the second one was with the years 4-8 because those were the people that had dances during the show. It also had all of the technology and lighting people there as well.

The final thing that we had to do was to actually perform the shows. We had 4 shows that we were going to perform 2 on the Wednesday at 1:00pm and 6:00pm and 2 on the  Thursday but it was the same time as the Tuesday shows. I had a lot of people that went to the show for me. I had my cousins (not all of them), my neighbours and my brother. On Thursday night I had my Dad, my sister, my nana and my granddad, my auntie and my Mum (but she had to go to all of the shows because she is a teacher). My favourite bit was when we were doing our final bows and I thought all of the hard work everyone put in had finally paid off.

If you saw me perform did I do well?

Oliver With a Twist!

Every 2 years we have a school production and this year we were performing Oliver With A Twist.  I got the part of the very mean Bill Sykes. My teacher gave us 4 questions to answer.

I made a newspaper front page for my DLO. It is above this text.

Who is your favourite character in Oliver With A Twist.

Radical R.E

This week in R.E we were learning about stories of God. We learned about four different stories. They were Noah’s Ark, Abraham and Issac, Mosses and the burning bush and the Parting of the red sea. The story that I found most interesting was probably Noah’s Ark or the Parting of the red sea. OUr task was to create an A.I generated image and answer a couple questions. Here it is…..

What is your favourite bible story?

CHRISTCHURCH 2011 EARTHQUAKE!!!!!!!

This week in reading we have been writing about New Zealand disasters. There were three options that we could write about. They were The Wahine Disaster, The Ballantynes Fire and the Christchurch 2011 Earthquake. I chose the Christchurch Earthquakes because to me it sounded like it was the most interesting out of the three. Our goal was to write an information report on the disaster that we chose. Our first bit that we had to do was our planning. First we had to write our introduction, then we wrote 2 sentences that we are going to use in three paragraphs, then we wrote our conclusion, after we put pictures in it that we were going to use and finally we wrote our bibliography.

Can you tell me another New Zealand disaster?

TASI/KIO

This Week in Maori we have been learning about TASI/KIO. TASI/KIO is the Maori sentence structure. TASI/KIO stands for Tense, Action, Subject, I stands for when, K or I stands for directional (who you are talking to) and finally O stands for object. Our create task was to make our own sentence. using some of these features (or all of them). I wanted to make my sentence about rugby. Here is my sentence…

I haere ahau ki te kēmu whutupaoro I te Rāhoroi.

Which means: I went to the rugby game on saturday.

Do you reckon you could write a sentence in Maori.

New Tote Tray Labels

Today I made a new Tote Tray label with my friend Hunter. We had a choice between paper and digital. I tried to do a digital version because I could put pictures of my favorite NBA players. The players I chose were SGA ( Shai Gilgeous-Alexander), Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant. But with the background I decided to the Los Angeles Lakers colours. We were not allowed to change the dimensions of the size. Because my teacher made so it fits perfectly on our tote trays. I felt like it looked really cool. Here it is…

Who is your favourite NBA player?

Climate Change!

This week in reading we have been learning about climate change. I felt like I already knew a lot about climate change because in reading last year we did a lot of sessions on climate change. I was wondering if the story was going to be different but it wasn’t it was the same. I couldn’t remember it though but my friend called Van could. He was doing the sessions with me last year. Our create was to either make a poster about climate change or make a blog about it. But I will link the work that I did for you guys. I enjoyed doing this because we had to write stuff about what we knew about climate change, what we want to learn about climate change and what we learned about climate change (after we finished reading the book of course). After I filled in the first 2 boxes we read the story. I enjoyed the story it told us a lot of stuff about climate change and a lot of stuff I didn’t know about climate change. After we read the story we had to do a thing we wrote 6 key words. I did it all on the slide they provided us. Here it is…

Do you know anything about climate change that I missed?

Maui and The Giant Fish!

This week Miss Henderson filmed my class on a thing called class on air. We read a story called Maui and the Giant Fish. Our Task was to summarise the story but we had to include emoji. We also had to try and black out the bits of the text and try to find the main part of the text. After we found the main bits of the text

The part I struggled with the most was trying to find the right emoji for the bit. I think sometimes when you try to figure out the emoji you have to think outside of the box. Here it is…

Maui wanted to go 🎣 with his brothers but they would always make a lame excuse. So one ⛅ he 👟 on their 🛶 when they dropped the ⚓ he surprised them. He said a 🙏 and the brothers immediately started to catch fish. When Maui decided to have a turn he caught a massive 🐟. His brothers started to cut it and eat it. This 🐠 turned into the north 🏝of 🇳🇿.

Could you figure out the sneaker Emoji?

Pope Leo XIV

This morning on May 9th 2025 at around 4:30 am New Zealand time the Cardinals elected a new Pope. His name is Robert Francis Provost has been elected the Pope of the Catholic Church. He has taken the name of Pope Leo XIV (14). On the day the conclave started we tried to guess who is going to be the next Pope. First we put the name of our Cardinal (a cardinal is a person who helps vote for the new Pope), then we put a picture of our chosen Cardinal. Afterwards we put information about our Cardinal. Here it is…..
